Get Caught Reading

May is Get Caught Reading Month!

Launched in 1999, "Get Caught Reading" is the brainchild of former Congresswoman Pat Schroeder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Association of American Publishers, the industry association representing book publishers. She saw the opportunity to spread the word about the joys of reading through an industry-supported literacy campaign.

Donald Duck, Patty Duke, Whoopi Goldberg, Jake Lloyd, Rosie O'Donnell, Dolly Parton, Jane Seymour, Sammy Sosa, Robin Williams, and many more celebrities have been "Caught Reading" to create ads and posters for the campaign.

The goal of Get Caught Reading is to encourage people of all ages to enjoy books and magazines and to share that pleasure with the young children in their lives.

See and download the free posters of celebrity readers, watch videos and find out more about how to celebrate reading this month at getcaughtreading.org.

The Literary Mama Blog Editor searches for mama-centric news you can use — including information about publishing opportunities and literacy efforts; essays and writing prompts that motivate and inspire; and announcements about events, classes, and workshops. The current blog editors are Laura Roberts and Rudri Patel; read their bios here and here.
