We are currently hiring 3 Editorial Assistants, 1 Blog Editor, and 1 Social Media Editor. We're looking for individuals who can work independently yet maintain affiliation with a team who meets and completes projects via cyberspace. Read below for the details:

 

Editorial Assistant

Our Editorial Assistants participate in editorial discussions about submissions and proofread and perform final copyedits on the website, ensuring that our monthly publishing schedule and editorial standards are met.

Qualifications and Expectations

  • Proficient with Chicago Manual of Style
  • Proficient with, or a willingness to learn about, content management systems (we use WordPress), group email conversations (we use Yahoo) and cloud-sharing programs (we use Google Drive)
  • 4 to 6 hours a week, depending on the number of submissions in the department.

 

Blog Editor

Our Blog Editors create and maintain a consistent schedule of blog posts that promote “mama-centric news you can use,” such as information about publishing opportunities and literacy efforts, essays and writing prompts, and more. They also work with the Social Media Editor to promote posts to Literary Mama friends and followers, and monitor blog statistics.

Qualifications and Expectations

  • Thinks like a marketer and understands how a blog can be used to promote a product
  • Proficient with group email conversations (we use Yahoo), cloud-sharing programs (we use Google Drive and Google Calendar), content management systems (we use WordPress), and analytics software (we use Piwik)
  • Experience with social media platforms (primarily Facebook and Twitter but we also have a presence on Pinterest, GoodReads, and CafePress)
  • Experience as a blog writer a plus
  • 1 to 5 hours a week.

 

Social Media Editor

Our Social Media Editor creates and maintains a consistent presence with Literary Mama followers, in conjunction with one or two other editors, that promotes new features on the magazine and new posts on the blog. As well, this individual engages in conversations with like-minded organizations by “liking,” “sharing,” “tweeting,” “retweeting,” “pinning,” and commenting on their posts, and monitors performance metrics regarding posts, reach, and engagement.

Qualifications and Expectations

  • Proficient with one or more social media platforms (we have a presence on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, GoodReads, CafePress)
  • Knowledgeable about social media marketing metrics and scheduling tools (we use Hootsuite)
  • Thinks like a marketer and understands how social media can be used to promote a product
  • Experience with group email conversations (we use Yahoo), cloud-sharing programs (we use Google Drive and Google Calendar)
  • 1 to 3 hours a week.
