We seek photos that offer unique perspectives on motherhood and relationships. Submissions from mothers are encouraged, but being a mom is not a requirement. These might be shots of people, places, and things, or they might be shots that reflect milestones, growth, and tradition. We like photos that are artful and that encourage us to reflect, versus those that appear staged.
We maintain a library of photographs and strive to match the image to the piece of writing—whether that writing is fiction, nonfiction, a literary reflection, or a blog post. Therefore, we encourage you to read our journal and the submission guidelines for each department to better understand our tone, style, and message.
Please submit up to three original photos at a time. Each should be submitted with a short bio, a brief artist’s statement or commentary about the image, and a link to your Instagram account. Send photos as low resolution jpgs (approximately 1024 pixels) with the subject line “Photo Submission.” No watermarks, please. For photos of people, please do not show full frontal faces.
We credit the photographer and link to the photographer’s Instagram account. Photographers retain all rights to photos. We're a non-paying market, but our readership and our social media communities are worldwide. Your photo will be published to a wide array of Literary Mama audiences. We love to work with amateur photographers who are looking for exposure.
